Automating the assembly process can be quite complex: in fact, during assembly, many different business processes come together. Assembly has elements of purchasing, planning, sales and inventory management in it, but none of the modules associated with it are completely satisfactory.

Companies that do not have software for their assembly often run into problems. For example, individual components may have already been sold to a customer while they were needed for an assembly order or vice versa: you think certain components are in stock, when in fact they have already been assembled into a finished product.

Also, a lot of loose inventory movements have to be manually tracked to book up finished goods and write off loose components. This is very error-prone and also quite time-consuming.

Things get even more complicated when there is outsourced assembly. Manually controlling this process is difficult, time-consuming and extremely error-prone. Fortunately, it can be done differently! What options are there?

• Assembly Module (standard). Here, you can create assembly orders for your employees. When an assembly order is created, the components are automatically reserved for this process and (virtually) moved to the assembly warehouse, removing them from sales inventory.The assembly employee uses the assembly slip to gather the components and assemble the final product. After completion, the final product is added to the total sales inventory.

  Assembly orders can also be requested directly from the sales order.

• Assembly+ Module. Is your assembly process a bit more complex than the standard one? For example, because your assembly also involves incorporating a semi-finished product? If so, the Assembly+ module is the solution.This module offers greater depth, and each layer provides opportunities for automation—for example, in planning, lead time calculation, pricing, and the procurement of components and subcomponents. You can create a purchase order directly from within the assembly process.

  The assembly recommendation feature is extremely useful. This recommendation is automatically generated based on inventory withdrawals or automated forecasts derived from previous years. You can then create assembly orders in a timely manner, ensuring that you maintain your finished product’s inventory at the desired minimum level.

• Outsourced Work Module. Is part of the assembly performed remotely by another company? For example, at a sheltered workshop or by a partner abroad? If so, the Outsourced Work Module is a useful tool.Not only does this module streamline communication and assembly orders, but it also allows you to include an additional cost component for processing in the total price of the final product.

  Because these costs are billed separately, you can reconcile the purchase invoice for these costs separately with the assembly process. As a result, the assembly results are accurately reflected in the accounting records.

Traceability

If you compose products as a wholesaler, then it is often the desire that the original origin of the subcomponents be included end product.

This way, should something be wrong, you can quickly see where the problem is and recall batches if necessary. All this is possible if you work in Wholesale use with batch registration.
