Choosing an erp package is an important step in your company or organization. After all, introducing a new erp system touches the fundamentals of your business model. Or does it?

It is not uncommon to think long and hard about choosing an erp package. This is quite right, because implementing an erp package in your organization can be a drastic change to the day-to-day operations. Moreover, you want your investment to be profitable. The expected implementation time makes you reluctant to make the wrong choice.

Cold feet

Yet at Logres we also see that the choice for a (new) erp package is sometimes put off for a long time. A certain cold feet is the cause of this.

"What if it all doesn't work the way we want it to anyway?" "What if the erp package doesn't fit our way of working?" "What if the erp package of our choice turns out not to be as user-friendly as predicted after all?"

Logical questions, but they do not have to remain unanswered. Our consultants have dealt with them before and can answer many of your questions from their own experience. We collected seven golden tips for a successful ERP selection:

7 Golden tips for choosing an erp package

  1. Properly map out what your erp package should be able to do and do. An RFI (Request For Information) document is a way to make a quick sift between suitable and less suitable software systems. You don't necessarily have to do this yourself: Our consultants can help you prepare such an RFI.
  2. See what erp packages are used by companies in your industry. Walk into a friend's company - if possible - and ask if the employees there are satisfied and what tips they have for you.
  3. An ERP package should make your business processes easier, not harder. Do you have to adapt too much? Then the erp package is obviously unable to meet this expectation and thus not a good choice for you.
  4. ERP packages often have many options. But can you limit these choices to the options you need? The implementation of an erp package is often much faster if the users are not bogged down in a forest of options that are not used in practice.
  5. Involve all employees who are important in the process. Of course: you don't want the choice process to be long and syrupy. However, the success of the implementation often depends on the support of your people. Your people on the shop floor often come up with good input, have the necessary process knowledge and involvement ensures support.
  6. Don't underestimate your common sense. Endless lists of pros and cons are sometimes unnecessary when you soberly and critically weigh two or three erp packages against each other.
  7. Challenge us to give you a demo based on a business case you provide.
